The Directorate of Information and Communication Technology is responsible for the University's information systems, digital services and technology infrastructure. It develops and maintains the platforms used by students, staff and the wider University community, administers the University's servers, network and data, and supports the Colleges and administrative units in their use of them.
Responsibilities
Information systems
Development and maintenance of the University's portals, administrative systems and the interfaces between them.
Infrastructure
Administration of the University's servers, network and web infrastructure, on campus and at its hosting sites.
Records and data protection
Custody of institutional records: accuracy, backup, retention, and access by authorised role in keeping with the University's data protection obligations.
Support and training
Assistance to Colleges, units, staff and students in the use of University systems, including orientation and training.
Services
The following services are available to the University community.
Web publishing
The University website and its content, published and maintained with the Colleges, Registry and administrative units responsible for each area.
Document verification
Documents issued by the University carry a unique reference. Employers and institutions may confirm the authenticity of a document using that reference.
Academic calendar
The approved calendar of the academic session, maintained by the Registry.
Examination results
Entry, moderation and release of results, and the production of broadsheets and statements of result for Colleges and departments.
Admissions
Application, screening, offer and acceptance for prospective students.
Student portal
Registration, course records, examination results and payments.
Staff portal
Staff records and the annual performance evaluation report (APER), raised, assessed and countersigned within the system.
Support desk
Requests for technical assistance are logged, assigned a reference and tracked to completion.
Using University systems
- Access to University systems is granted by role. Staff and students should use only the accounts issued to them, and should report any suspected compromise to the Directorate without delay.
- Institutional mail, calendars and collaboration are provided through Microsoft 365. Official correspondence is conducted through University accounts.
- Systems are monitored continuously. Maintenance that interrupts a service is announced in advance.
- Requests for new systems, changes to existing ones, data extracts and integrations are made through the support desk, so that each may be scheduled, tracked and recorded.
- Colleges and units planning any activity with a technology component are invited to consult the Directorate at the planning stage.
Head of the Directorate
Oluwaseun Adesola-Zion
Head, Directorate of Information and Communication Technology
Oluwaseun Adesola-Zion has led the Directorate since 2022, with responsibility for the University's application development, server and web infrastructure, data management and IT training.
A Microsoft Certified IT professional, he has over fifteen years' experience in systems and network architecture in local and remote environments, and has developed systems in service both within the University and in industry. He is a registrar with the Nigeria Internet Registration Association (NiRA). His earlier work spans broadcasting technology, ICT infrastructure and IT education, including teaching Computer Science at NIIT Akure and leading international training in AI-controlled broadcasting systems.
His research interests are in applied artificial intelligence and multimedia systems.
