Lagos Unites Against Technology-Facilitated Sexual and Gender-Based Violence
The Department of Broadcasting joined a Lagos-wide campaign against technology-facilitated sexual and gender-based violence (TFSGBV), standing with students, advocates and state agencies to insist that the online space must be safe for everyone. Dressed in the campaign’s signature orange, participants carried placards naming the harms the movement is determined to end.
Naming the harm
The campaign puts a name to abuses that often hide behind screens — doxing, sextortion, revenge porn and deepfakes — and insists they are crimes, not pranks. Its message to young people is direct: think twice before sending a picture online, and protect yourself and others.
Zero tolerance in Lagos
Under the banner “Zero tolerance for technology-facilitated sexual and gender-based violence in Lagos,” speakers reminded the audience that help is a phone call away. Survivors and witnesses were urged to speak up through the state’s toll-free line — see it, report it on 08000-333-333 — so that no one suffers in silence.

For the Department of Broadcasting, the event was a natural extension of its teaching: the same digital tools that power modern media can be turned against people, and a responsible newsroom helps its audience recognise and resist that abuse. The department thanks its students and partners for lending their voices to a safer online Lagos.
