The Department of Accounting, Finance and Taxation in the College of Arts, Social and Management Sciences (CASMAS) of Caleb University, Lagos was established in 2008 and commenced academic work with 24 undergraduate students. As a basic social and management sciences, it encompasses the rudiments of courses in those areas and therefore provides the original and fundamental knowledge associated with the subjects in the areas of social and management sciences that must be taught and imparted creditably.

The department provides academic and practical knowledge at a degree level (B.Sc. Accounting & B.Sc. Finance) to students in order to prepare them for the task of managerial and professional career in the industry and in public sector of the nation. The department also offers postgraduate degrees in the areas of PGD Accounting, MSc Accounting, MSc. Finance and Doctoral degrees in both Accounting and Finance. The department also run collaborative programmes with professional bodies including the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria (CIBN) and the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN).

The programmes in the Department are accredited not only by the National University Commission (NUC) but also by the relevant professional bodies and are designed to equip students, professionally and technically, ready for accounting and banking and finance jobs at the supervisory and junior managerial levels.

Consequently, the teaching philosophy and techniques are deliberately practice-oriented.

This approach enables the Department to drive the students beyond the confines of the theory as available in books, journals and the internet and open their minds up to the practice of these professions in the market place.

Head of Department

Dr. Olalekan Akinrinola studied Accountancy in Ogun State Polytechnic (Now Moshood Abiola Polytechnic), Abeokuta where he graduated with HND Distinction in 1993. He attended Ambrose Alli University, Ekpoma and graduated with Master of Business Administration (MBA). He has his B.Sc. in Accounting from Crescent University, Abeokuta, M.Sc. in Accounting from St. Monica University, Buea, Cameroon. Dr. Akinrinola has two Doctoral degrees: one in Banking and Finance from Charisma University, Turks & Caicos Island British West Indies, UK and another in Accounting from Babcock University, Ilishan-Remo, Ogun State, Nigeria.

Dr. Akinrinola belongs to professional bodies having started studying for the professional accounting examinations in 1989 and became an Associate, Accounting Technician (AAT) in 1990. He is a fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria (FCA) having passed the final qualifying examination in 1992 before completing his HND; an associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (ACTI) and a fellow of the Association of Forensic Accounting Researchers (FFAR). He has certifications in Basics of Strategic Management and Financial Performance both from the International Business Management Institute, Berlin, Germany.

He lectured in the Department of Accountancy of Ogun State Polytechnic from 1994 to 1997 and also in many Professional Accounting Tuition Centres in Abeokuta and Abuja. Dr. Olalekan Akinrinola has over 20 years of banking experience and joined Caleb university in 2019 as a Senior Lecturer and currently an Associate Professor and the Acting Head, Department of Accounting, Finance & Taxation.
